Last year I was given the privilege of attending the Apartment Internet Marketing conference for the first time. I met a ton of great people. They inspired me to try some of the things I’ve been doing over the past year and I’ve grown so much because of it. There are good reasons why an IT guy should polish up his old skills and understand marketing today. Apartment marketing is so technology intensive that to roll out a marketing initiative means learning tech and vice versa. I talked about it some time ago here.
When you work on improving yourself, you never lose
Since last year’s conference, I’ve forged many friendships, annoyed some, earned the respect of others and made some of you laugh. I’m good with all of it. This conference is about all of those things and more, so I’m just reaping what was sown. This year I’ve been fortunate enough to not only go but to speak as well. Is that not the craziest thing you’ve ever heard? Last year I stepped off the plane an unknown and a year later, I’ve been honored with the opportunity to speak in front of the very same people who inspired me. Wow. It’s the power of relationships, blogging, social media, and knowledge all wrapped up in one. I’m extremely excited to be doing it. Here’s my topic: “I Work By Myself: Marketing Tactics That Work for Small Owners and Small Departments” which is tomorrow 5/3 at 1:30pm.

Let this be an inspiration to all of you out there. CAN’T isn’t a word I’m familiar with. I just do. When passion grabs me by the nose, I follow it. Just as long as passion isn’t making me jump off the roof of this hotel, I’m good with letting it take me wherever it wants. Conference starts at 2:45pm today.
